Love Me Back | Chapter 1

The cool breeze of the autumn air blows through Zoe’s hair as she unloads the final box into her new bedroom. Her mother moved them to a new city due to work expansions in the local area. Zoe wasn’t opposed to the move; she wanted to have a fresh start.

She placed the box on top of one of many unstable stacks crudity placed all around her room. Plopping onto her bed, she scrolled on her phone looking for a local music shop where she could get away from her mother; she couldn’t care less to unpack the boxes immediately, her mother needed to relax. Finding a local shop not too far away, she grabbed her bass guitar, and left ignoring her mother’s questions and demands.

The city had a cozy atmosphere with creativity everywhere she looked. The brick walls were vibrant canvases, covered in beautiful artwork full of color and life. Down one street, an artist drew portraits of customers while nearby, the chords of an acoustic guitar flowed through the area with a singer pouring their heart out.

When she arrived to the music shop, she noticed It was a lot busier than she expected. Back in her old city, the shop she visited frequently barely had anyone inside, so seeing this many people made Zoe a tad bit anxious. Gathering her courage, she made her way to the register.

Zoe couldn’t help but stare at the beautiful woman at the register. Her kinky curls were dyed a striking color of electric teal, casting a vibrant aura around her. Against her vitiligo skin, Zoe could easily spot a Medusa and a labret piercing, leaving her certain there were more hidden away elsewhere. She was Zoe’s dream girl. Zoe froze in place, her mouth open in awe.Snapping out of it, she made her way to the register, hoping there was an open practice room for her to play.

The closer she got to the register, the more her heart and mind raced. When it was finally Zoe’s turn to talk to her, she sounded like a bumbling fool. Embarrassed, she looked down, away from the slightly entertained woman, only to spot a name tag pinned messily to her shirt. It read: Hazel. Hazel offered to show her where the rooms were and Zoe sheepishly agreed. As soon as her session was over, Zoe practically bolted from the store without saying goodbye. All the way back to her house, she mocked herself for how badly she had fumbled, but she knew she wanted to see her again.
